Make the decision visible before making the list.
Families in Bandung may be comparing Indonesian, UK, US, Canadian, European or Asian routes at the same time. The first task is not to collect more names. It is to expose the timing, evidence, course, affordability and location choices that make some routes workable and others irrelevant.
Start with the family decision, not a list of universities
Write down the course direction, countries still under consideration, the application window and the constraints that could close a route. A university list is useful only after the family knows what it is trying to decide.
Separate current evidence from hoped-for evidence
Record the grades, subjects, language readiness, testing, portfolio work and activities that exist now. Keep expected improvements in a separate column. This prevents a plan from depending on evidence that has not arrived.
Compare the whole commitment
For every live route, compare the course, teaching structure, assessment, total cost, travel, visa requirements and deadlines. Tuition alone is not the family decision, and a less selective option is not automatically a safe one.
Use school support before adding another adviser
Ask the school which countries, courses and deadlines it supports routinely, what it will review and what remains the student’s responsibility. Independent advice is useful only when a defined cross-border decision or execution gap remains.
Give the student and parents clear ownership
The student owns authorship and educational preference. Parents own affordability and family constraints. The adviser can structure evidence and trade-offs. Writing the owner beside each decision reduces late disagreement.
When a private conversation may help.
School counselling may already be enough. Consider an independent conversation only when two or more systems remain live and a defined decision or execution gap is affecting the family’s next step.
Families can meet Travis in person in Bandung by appointment, often over coffee at a mutually agreed neutral public venue after fit is established. Online support is available worldwide for families who are travelling or spread across countries.
