Keep a global decision visible while the family is settled in Bali.
Bali families may be choosing among Indonesian, Australian, UK, US, Canadian, European or Asian university routes. The first job is not to build the longest list. It is to expose the timing, evidence, course, affordability and movement choices that make each route workable or irrelevant.
Separate the Bali school route from the university route
A student may be well supported at school and still need to compare university systems in Indonesia, Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, Europe or Asia. Write the possible routes down before collecting institution names.
Treat the curriculum as evidence, not a destination
Record the current programme, subjects, grades, testing, portfolio work and language evidence. Then check which requirements each live route actually uses. Do not assume that an international curriculum makes every route interchangeable.
Compare the whole move
For each route, compare course design, total cost, housing, travel, visa or residence rules, support network and deadlines. A university can look attractive while the family is unable to operate the route comfortably.
Ask what school counselling already covers
Many families need nothing beyond a strong school counselling programme. An independent conversation is useful only when a defined cross-country decision, family constraint or execution gap remains after the school route is understood.
Give the student and adults clear ownership
The student remains the author and owns educational preference. Adults own affordability, mobility and family constraints. Writing the owner beside each decision prevents late disagreement and protects the student's voice.
What to bring to a first conversation.
- The broad countries or course routes still under consideration.
- The application window and the decision that currently feels stuck.
- The family constraints that are real, including movement, budget and support.
- No student documents or private family details at this stage.
School counselling may already be enough. Independent advice should add structure to a defined decision, not duplicate a school's support or promise an outcome.
Next step
Start with a short, private conversation.
Families in Bali can request a 15-minute phone call or Google Meet by email. Travis also meets adult parents by appointment in Bandung or Jakarta, and works online worldwide.
